This will be the eighth celebration at Chippewa of the Thames First Nation, which started with a small group of volunteers responding to our young people’s awakening to explore their Ojibway culture.

Traditional Gatherings celebrate culture with dance, song and teachings. The typical activities include the building of an arbour and sweat lodge, dancing to songs played by a host drum and led by head dancers with a master of ceremonies to guide the proceedings. Elders provide traditional teachings and each day’s events end with a community feast. The final day includes a give-away to recognize everyone’s participation in the celebrations.

Everyone is welcome to join us at the “Awakening the Next Generation” Traditional Gathering June 19 – 21, 2009 at Jubliee Park, Chippewa of the Thames First Nation southwest of London, Ontario.

Master of Ceremonies - Gerrard Sagassige

Host Drum - Wasauksing Nimikiibnesii Dewehgan
